Rutgers Baseball wins series vs. Maryland
The Scarlet Knights won the penultimate series of the Big Ten season.
Rutgers earned a much-needed series victory over the weekend taking two out of three from Maryland at Bainton Field in Piscataway. The Scarlet Knights are now 24-27 overall and 11-16 in Big Ten play. Game One Rutgers started the series off hot using its power bats.
The Scarlet Knights hit two first-inning home runs to spark a 5-3 win over the Terrapins in game one of the series on Friday. Matt Chatelle got the scoring started with a two-run home run to get Rutgers on the board. Ryan Jaros followed with a solo shot to put the team up, 3-0.
This was enough for Zack Konstantinovsky. He earned his fourth win of the season going 6 2/3 innings allowing two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and just one walk. Jack Sweeney drove in a run with an infield hit in the fifth inning.
Maryland attempted to cut into the lead late but could not put up a crooked number to get closer. Game Two The Scarlet Knights stayed hot offensively on Saturday with 12 hits during a 10-0 win in eight innings. Tyler Wiltsey got the scoring started in the fourth inning with an RBI single.
