May 11 (UPI) -- Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy was shot at a concert in Mississippi, underwent surgery and is in stable condition, the school said Monday. The Tigers said Hardy was a "victim of a shooting" early Sunday morning at the concert, but did not disclose the exact location of the incident. The Mississippi Department of Public safety said it was not involved in any investigation related to the matter.

"Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans," the Tigers said. "We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support. " Hardy's 1,649 rushing yards last season were the second-most in the country, trailing only Jacksonville State's Cam Cook, who ran for 1,659.

Hardy is projected as one of the top running backs in the 2027 NFL Draft class. Hardy, 20, totaled 256 attempts and scored 16 times last season en route to All-American honors. The junior running back spent his freshman season at Louisiana-Monroe.

He led the Sun Belt with 1,351 rushing yards and 13 scores that season. The Tigers will start their 2026 campaign against Arkansas Pine Bluff on Sept. 3 in Columbia, Mo.
