Mike Tomlin promotes new Sunday Night Football role at NBC event. Why he's excited
Former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin joined Mike Tirico on stage at an NBC event to share why he's excited about his new Sunday Night Football role.
NEW YORK — The newest member of NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” pregame show, Mike Tomlin, is ready for his transition from the sideline to the spotlight. “I'm excited about the new challenge and the new chapter that I'm embarking on, like being on stage at Radio City (Music Hall),” Tomlin said from the iconic venue at NBCUniversal’s annual advertising upfront presentation on Monday, May 11. Joining NBC voice and lead presenter Mike Tirico as well as longtime NBC announcer Bob Costas, Tomlin — as he said when news of him joining the show last month became public — maintained his excitement.
“It gives me an opportunity to stay close to the game that we all love, and share with fellow lovers, and learn something along the way," he said. The first regular-season assignment for Tomlin will be prior to Week 1 of the 2026 season, when the New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys on “SNF. ” It will be Giants head coach John Harbaugh’s debut with his new team after 18 seasons as one of Tomlin’s primary adversaries leading the Baltimore Ravens.
“Oh, it's gonna be great for the Giants,” Tomlin said. “You know, having competed against (Harbaugh) for 18 years over the same divisional territory, one thing I don't know about his group, they'll certainly be ready. And by that, I mean, there will be a hard buy-in to the team development process that'll be appropriate to have ready to go week one.
And secondarily, man, they'll be a highly-conditioned group. “ Tomlin appeared on “SNF” as the Steelers’ coach 41 times. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Mike Tomlin shares why he is excited about Sunday Night Football role at NBC event
