As Sun fans poured into the Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday for the franchise’s final home opener, their minds seemed focused less on what they would see on the court that afternoon and instead on what they’ll miss most about the Connecticut Sun.

We’re supposed to be the ‘Basketball Capital of the World’ and we can’t even keep a team. ” Al and his wife, Renee Mack, remember when the Sun played their first season in Connecticut in 2003. Over the years, they’ve attended numerous fan events and gotten the opportunity to meet and speak with many of the stars who have donned the Sun’s jersey, including Nykesha Sales, Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones.

“My husband had gotten certain items made with (DiJonai Carrington’s) number and her name,” Mack said. “We’d sit sometimes courtside or even in our regular seats and she’d be out there practicing. She’d look up in the stands for him, specifically, and sometimes (be like) ‘I see what you have on’.
