The memorial will honour Diogo and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically passed away last summer.

The tragic death of Liverpool striker Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a auto accident last summer remains a painful, scarring incident for many around Liverpool Football Club, and something that remains quite difficult to talk about in ways that feel genuine or at all useful. Nearly a year has now passed since the incident, and the club’s plans for a permanent memorial to the two players have now been finalized, with a release of images of the planned memorial this week along with details about where the memorial will be installed in the coming months. “At its centre is a flowing heart sculpture, in acknowledgement of Diogo’s iconic goal celebration, while viewed from different angles it also reveals the numbers 20 and 30, which adorned the back of the brothers’ playing shirts,” read the club’s statement on the planned memorial.

“It will also feature the lyrics to Jota’s famous song so beloved by Liverpool fans, and one they still sing at every game on the 20th minute. It will stand on a Granby Rock-faced stone plinth, and incorporated into the plinth itself are many of the physical tributes that were left at Anfield. ”
