Sturgis tennis wins first conference title in more than 20 years
Trojans claim four flight championships, team title in Wolverine Conference Championships
STURGIS — The Sturgis tennis team won the Wolverine Conference championship on Saturday, May 9. It was the first time since 2003 for Sturgis claiming the conference title. Sturgis hosted this year's event and ran away with first place, posting 59 points as a team for the day.
That included four flight winners. Cora Phillips at first singles, Mazie Sterling at third singles and Bella Currier at fourth singles each played their way to individual conference championships. The fourth doubles team of Lilly Whitehead and Stella Barry also picked up a first-place finish in the conference.
Sturgis played to second place in three flights as well. Gracie Perry at second singles, the first doubles team of Mya Eicher and Katelyn Halling plus the third doubles team of Ella Whitehead and Bailey Cates all finished second. Marlee Smith and Hannah Ritchie earned a third-place finish at second doubles.

Sterling's win at third singles came over Elise Howard of Vicksburg in the finals, she won with scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Currier beat Madison Kanouse of Vicksburg in the finals at fourth singles with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
