Kon Knueppel Update!
A cool off-season perk for Knueppel
O ne of the things that Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel have in common is a deep sense of loyalty to friends, family, and where they come from. In Knueppel’s case, he is of course from Milwaukee. On the most recent “The Old Man and The Three” podcast, (formerly hosted by Duke great JJ Redick), Knueppel got a chance to hang out with Christian Yelich, who plays left field for the Milwaukee Brewers People have consistently underestimated Knueppel, partly because he doesn’t call attention to himself, just does what he’s supposed to do, and does that very well.
But if you listen closely, you get a sense of what’s important to him. He’s never gone on about it, but he’s clearly deeply religious. He teases his brothers, but seems to spend a lot of time around them, though he’s in the NBA now and they’re all either in high school or, we think, middle school.
And he cares about Milwaukee, as we see (or hear) in this podcast. At one point, he tells a story about Jamal Cain, who went to Marquette. During a game, Knueppel tells him, “Hey, I used to watch you play.
” The guy didn’t believe him until Knueppel explained that he grew up in Milwaukee and saw him play for Marquette, before he transferred to Oakland. That’s just how that guy is. There’s a reason why, when Flagg was asked what three things he would take if he were on a deserted island, he replied: a gun, some food…and Kon Knueppel.
