Steelers OT Max Iheanachor gives hint to his future spot on the offensive line
The Steelers held their rookie minicamp and rookie offensive tackle Max Iheanachor says the team has had him line up exclusively on the right side.
When the Pittsburgh Steelers spent their first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft on offensive tackle Max Iheanachor, it wasn't clear what the Steelers had in mind for him. With reports of a setback in the recovery of starting left tackle Broderick Jones, we wondered if maybe the team was going to fast track him to the left tackle spot. But during the team's rookie minicamp, Iheanachor let the cat out of the bag and said he's been working exclusively on the right side.
What this leads us to believe is that if Jones cannot go at the start of the season, the plan is to move starting right tackle Troy Fautanu to left tackle and starting Iheanachor at right tackle. It's important to note that Fautanu started 29 games at left tackle at a University of Washington. There is another option.
If Jones does make a full recovery and is ready to go at the start of the season, Iheanachor could still start at right tackle. Where does that leave Fautanu? He could kick inside and be the team's new starting left guard, allowing rookie Gennings Dunker time to develop.
Then, after the season, the team can make a decision about Jones and his contract, and the team would have its options and replacement ready to go for 2027. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Steelers OT Max Iheanachor gives hint to his future spot on the offensive line
