Spring in the 337 has been jam-packed with postseason high school sports and May is no different as the 2025-26 school year approaches its end. Tickets were punched to Sulphur this week amid more weather delays throughout the 2026 LHSAA Baseball State Tournament. Champions were crowned in high school tennis with St.
Thomas More girls and boys winning the Division II state championships. Over in track and field, champions were born at 2026 LHSAA Outdoor Track & Field State in Baton Rouge. From distance runners to fielding events, the 337 was well represented on track and field’s biggest stage for Louisiana prep sports.
Here are the nominations for the athlete of the week for May 4- 10, which includes athletes from baseball, softball, tennis and track and field. Voting will close at 9 a. m.
on Friday. (Athletes listed in alphabetical order) Andre Abshire, track and field, Ascension Episcopal: Abshire represents one of three Blue Gators to end the track season as a state champion. The senior took home first place in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles in Class 1A Division with times of 14.
