Gasperini considers Manna the ideal sporting director Roma could play in the Champions League, Europa League, or the Conference next season. With two games to go, nothing is yet decided. The Giallorossi have joined AC Milan in fourth place, but are tied on points due to their head-to-head record, trailing Allegri’s side.
Currently, they would be competing in the Europa League. Roma, however, can’t wait until the end of the season to start planning their future and searching for a sporting director to replace Frederic Massara, who is set to leave the capital. The casting call includes several candidates, but at the top of Gasperini’s, and therefore the Friedkins’, wish list is Giovanni Manna, currently at Napoli.
Giovanni Manna is the sporting director in pole position to replace Frederic Massara. As Fabrizio Romano reports, the Friedkin family is directly involved in convincing Napoli to release their sporting director. The negotiations aren’t simple; the choice depends on the decision of Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who tends to be reluctant to release his own employees who still have long contracts.
Antonio Conte’s future is also unclear. Roma will therefore try to convince both parties with a significant offer: Manna, in fact, is Gian Piero Gasperini’s number one candidate. The Giallorossi coach considers him perfect for next season: an ideal name for football in Rome, proposed to the Friedkins, who are making moves.
