An Unlikely Hero Saved The Tigers Tonight In Kansas City

Yahoo Sports

So it was Gage Workman saving the Tigers' season in the middle of May. I don’t think anyone had that on their bingo card. The former 2020 Tigers draft pick, who was picked up by the Cubs as a rule five pick before ultimately being sent back to the Tigers organization, made his Detroit debut tonight and didn’t waste it.

It came off the bench and broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. I’m sure that I’ve annoyed people with my repetitiveness. It is Mother’s Day (Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.

I love you), and my mom used to tell me, growing up, that I would repeat the same things over and over, but I’m going to keep doing that when talking about this team. You are noticeably banged up. No one is expecting you to rail off 10 wins in a row, but if you want to maintain some level of consistency, you’re going to need contributions from unexpected pieces.

Tonight, you got that on the pitching side from Emmanuel De Jesus and definitely on the hitting side with Gage Workman. Detroit is off tomorrow, and I get the impression that AJ Hinch was very much aware of that. It’s a well-timed off day because Detroit has had to put together bullpen day after bullpen day over the last week or so.

That likely won’t change anytime soon, but thankfully, Detroit will have a bit of a breather before heading to Queens to play the inconsistent New York Mets. Jack Flaherty will be looking to build off of what was an encouraging start last time out, going up against new Mets pitcher and established veteran Freddy Peralta.
