UConn softball earns NCAA Tournament bid. See who they’ll face

STORRS — Fresh off its second consecutive Big East championship, the UConn softball team got its NCAA Tournament assignment Sunday night. The Huskies will head to Texas A&M on Friday to begin Regional play at 2 p. m.

“I’m excited, we obviously have Emma Willers on our team from Texas, a couple of recruits from Texas, so I’m excited to go there and make some noise. Pour into each other, play 1-to-21 UConn softball and that’s how we’re going to win. ” The Huskies it’s two games in the NCAA Tournament at Baton Rouge last year, the program’s first appearance since 2001.

Willers, a freshman from Dallas, hit two home run in UConn’s victory over Butler in the Big East semifinal on Friday. On Saturday, the deciding game, Big East player of the year Cat Petteys went 4 for 5 with a home run and Jessica Walter, transfer from Providence, pitched the complete game to beat Creighton, 8-3. Texas A&M (36-16) is the 15th overall seed in the 64-team field.

Arizona State and McNeese are the other contenders in the double-elimination Regional bracket.
