Irish Liverpool fan Sean Cox was at Anfield for the match and able to meet with Mohamed Salah before the match, reuniting them before Salah’s departure this summer. Cox was attacked by AS Roma fans in 2018, suffering severe physical and neurological injuries that kept him in Liverpool for almost two years before being allowed to return home to Ireland to finish his recovery.

He has since kept a close relationship with many at the club, even coming back to Anfield to say goodbye to Jürgen Klopp. Cox has close ties with his local Gaelic Athletic Association club, St. Peter’s in Dunboyne, and gifted Salah one of their shirts, embroidered with a special message.

Printed with Salah’s name and number on the back, the crest also had the added detail of lyrics from You’ll Never Walk Alone in Irish.
