Packers continue to find receiver contract value with Jayden Reed deal

Yahoo Sports

Green Bay continues to make their committee approach at wide receiver work for them, after signing Jayden Reed to an inexpensive contract extension.

Amid the excitement of the NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers got an important piece of business done, signing Jayden Reed to a three-year contract extension worth $50. 25 million in new money. The significance of it got lost in the shuffle of the draft and has not received much publicity as a result, but it was another example of Brian Gutekunst making some uncertainty around a player entering a contract year, and his atypical wide receiver room, work in his favor.

Looking at the decision to re-sign Reed in itself, it made sense for Green Bay to lock him up as a key part of the offense for years to come It feels like a long time ago now, but Reed led the Packers in receiving in each of his first two years, before injuries derailed his 2025 campaign. He dealt with a Jones’ fracture in his foot during training camp, then broke his collarbone in week two. Between the regular and postseason, he had 2,022 yards from scrimmage and 17 touchdowns in his first two years in the NFL.

The only other receivers to put up those numbers or better since 2006 are: Marques Colston Calvin Johnson Mike Wallace Julio Jones Torrey Smith AJ Green Odell Beckham Jr. AJ Brown DK Metcalf Justin Jefferson Ja’Marr Chase That’s good company. His extension carries an average annual value of $16.

75 million, which ranks 29th among wide receivers, placing him between Romeo Doubs and Rasheed Shaheed ($17 million) and Cooper Kupp ($15 million). His AAV is a little around $4 million more than rookie Carnell Tate. Following an injury-riddled 2025, it would have been easy for the Packers to be conservative and take a ‘wait and see’ approach with Reed entering a contract year.
