The names Young and Fitzpatrick are beginning to look awfully familiar atop PGA Tour leaderboards. Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick have combined for five tour titles already this season. Heading into the final round of the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow on Sunday, May 10, both names are at or near the top of the standings again.

He leads the tournament by one shot over Kristoffer Reitan and two shots over Young. It just so happens Young and Alex Fitzpatrick were college teammates at Wake Forest.

The PGA Tour shared their thoughts on the matchup on X. Together for one season Alex Fitzpatrick joined the Wake Forest Demon Deacons as a freshman in 2018-19, which was Young’s senior season. Looking back, Young said Fitzpatrick was too good a player to put through the usual freshman hazing rituals.

Fitzpatrick soon joined Young in the starting lineup. “I have nothing but good things to say about Cam,” the 27-year-old Fitzpatrick said. “He kind of really looked after me.
