She came out on top with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 win in Rome and will now face Elise Mertens in the next round. Andreeva had a bye in the first round before easing past Antonia Ruzic 6-1, 6-0 in her tournament opener.
Andreeva started the match well, taking control early and winning two sets comfortably, but lost focus in between. Golubic broke twice and took advantage of an unusually high number of unforced errors from Andreeva, levelling things up before fading away in the decider. Now into the fourth round at just seventeen years old, Andreeva has already achieved one notable feat at this stage.
By reaching this level for a sixth time at a WTA event, she’s matched Maria Sharapova’s record for most such appearances before turning eighteen. Her rise began to gather real pace during the 2025 season when she started turning potential into results at this level.
At just 17, she made headlines by winning consecutive titles in Dubai and Indian Wells, becoming the youngest champion since the WTA adopted the current format in 2009. This year on clay, Andreeva has put together a strong run of form, holding a record of 14-2 heading into her next match. Her consistency on the surface has been noticeable.
