The Golden State Valkyries cut her loose in the lead-up to the regular season, but on Sunday, Martin signed a new deal elsewhere. She'll be joining the Los Angeles Sparks on a developmental contract. A developmental WNBA contract is a bit like a two-way deal in the NBA.
A player on that deal can be on the active roster for 12 regular season games, and they practice and travel with the team. They can also be signed to a standard contract as the season goes along. It's essentially a way for a team, in this case the Sparks, to keep around a player they like who just didn't quite have a spot on the standard 12-player roster.
Martin is entering her third WNBA season after playing with Caitlin Clark at Iowa. She was originally the No. 18 overall pick by the Las Vegas Aces in 2024 and averaged 2.
