It also laid the foundation for a budding relationship between quarterback Drew Allar and wide receiver Germie Bernard.

Allar was the only quarterback at rookie minicamp, something head coach Mike McCarthy said was by design. It allowed the Steelers’ coaching staff to begin working on transforming his footwork and fine tune his mechanics, but also begin building chemistry with his new teammates – one of which in particular is already excited about what he sees in his quarterback. Second-round pick wide receiver Germie Bernard spoke highly of Allar after catching passes from him during the two-day minicamp.

“He’s a great quarterback,” Bernard said . “I met him at the combine and we were able to throw together a little bit, so I kind of already knew what he was bringing. But you see what he does on the field, so just being able to be with him was a great connection.

” Bernard is poised to step in as the Steelers’ No. 3 receiving option, and sharpening that early connection with Allar — who’s widely expected to get his shot at proving he can be the franchise quarterback, whether that be this season or next — will only elevate both of their games.
