For today’s Question of the Day, I wanted to honor the mothers out there for their support in a lot of our biggest passions out there. Women in sports is no longer just a niche subculture.
The WNBA has now produced several superstars, the amount of college women athletes is steadily on the rise, and television ratings for women’s sports is skyrocketing . This was even a big week locally in Detroit for women’s sports, as the city is getting a team in the Professional Women’s Hockey League . So today’s Question of the Day is: How did your mother impact your sports journey?
My answer: I’ve written a couple pieces about how it was my dad who sprouted my interest in the Detroit Lions. It was his passion that first planted the seed in my own, whether it was watching him throw his radio headset in disgust after a loss or jump up and down while watching Barry Sanders do his thing. But for most of those Sundays spent in the Silverdome, my mom was right there, too.
