Alexander Rossi's Sonsio Grand Prix race ended early due to a hybrid failure, leading him to criticize the system and IndyCar race control. 'That's frustrating'

INDIANAPOLIS – Alexander Rossi 's day at IndyCar's Sonsio Grand Prix ended after just 20 laps. Rossi's No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet came to a complete stop after a hybrid failure.

When approached by Fox after stepping out of his car, Rossi did not hold back on his thoughts on IndyCar's hybrid system , which was introduced in the middle of the 2024 season. "I mean, it's pretty annoying to have a failure in the car because of a product that we didn't ask for that doesn't improve the racing," Rossi said. "So that's frustrating.

" The hybrid is an electronic propulsion addition that can provide up to 60 extra horsepower to drivers when deployed. IndyCar began using it in June 2024, and many drivers have criticized it for both its functionality and its impact on the quality of racing. This is the second race in a row that the hybrid has forced a driver to end his day early, as Andretti Global's Marcus Ericsson also had a hybrid failure at the Grand Prix of Long Beach.
