He was the youngest player to record a first-class hat-trick for Glamorgan and the first on Championship debut since 1906, sparking wild celebrations with his team-mates. Somerset crashed to 32-6 on a tricky pitch, 157 runs ahead. Glamorgan had been bowled out for 229 in their first innings with Migael Pretorius taking three for 50 as the Somerset seamers dominated, Ben Kellaway top-scoring with 59.

Ul Hassan edged Gregory to slip for 16 before Pretorius took over with a hostile spell, having Kiran Carlson caught at slip for 21, trapping Colin Ingram lbw first ball and re-arranging the stumps of former team-mate Sean Dickson. From 93-5, Kellaway and Chris Cooke launched a strong fight-back with a stand of 80, both men driving strongly down the ground while Cooke pulled a big six off Gregory.
