The roster is expected to count on at least three strikers, as Folarin Balogun, Ricardo Pepi and Haji Wright have all strengthened their cases through club form before the reveal. Balogun has 19 goals this season, including eight in his last 11 games, while Pepi has 17 after scoring four in his latest three matches. Wright has also reached 17 goals, leaving the Argentine head coach with a strong group.
Still, a decision still required over hierarchy and minutes. Midfield has become less settled because Johnny Cardoso suffered a high-grade right ankle sprain with Atletico Madrid. That injury leaves his World Cup status uncertain, with Cristian Roldan, Tanner Tessmann and Aidan Morris among the names who could have strengthened cases in his absence.
There is also uncertainty in goal. Matt Freese is considered the favourite for the spot, but Chris Brady, Matt Turner, Patrick Schulte and Roman Celentano remain part of a wider discussion around the position. Read more: Lionel Messi makes ‘can’t be very objective’ admission over Neymar Jr.
