Rarely has Anfield been so angry as Slot targeted by boo boys after Chelsea draw
Liverpool manager Arne Slot was jeered after he replaced Rio Ngumoha with Alexander Isak - Phil Noble/Reuters There were grumbles at half-time, outright booing for one of his substitutions and more discord at the final whistle, and yet Arne Slot – the target of this Anfield discontent – could make the argument that it is not even his club of these two that is truly in crisis. Liverpool might be stumbling but Chelsea have barely pulled out of their nosedive. Their run of six Premier League defeats has been ended by a draw that does them few favours in the hunt for the European places and much rests now on the FA Cup final on Saturday if they are to make the Europa League next season.
These are two very unhappy clubs – one with a manager whom many of the supporters want out and another with an interim who was appointed amid another crisis. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge could be every bit as rebellious as Anfield was for Slot. Both sides had goals disallowed by VAR reviews that discovered offsides in the second half.
Virgil van Dijk had a header against the bar. Dominik Szoboszlai struck the post with a shot – but otherwise neither side looked ready to risk what it might take to win. Full report to follow 03:07pm Slot reacts to booing from Liverpool fans “That’s probably got something to do with us not winning.
