May 9—FLORENCE — A record-setting season for the Lindsay Lane baseball team came to an early end Friday night. The Class 2A, No. 1 Lions fell to Mars Hill 11-6 in Game 3 of the state quarterfinals.
The Lions finished with a 33-8 record, setting a school record for wins after eclipsing the previous record of 29. "It was a record-breaking year for us, and we didn't even lose a game for like six weeks," said Lindsay Lane head coach Charles Morrison. "That's something to hang your hat on and be really proud of.
" Morrison said the loss was tough but decided to take a positive spin on it. "We're a young team with a lot coming back, and I think there's a lot of excitement for the future," he said. Mars Hill took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Friday's game but Lindsay Lane responded quickly, scoring four runs in the second to go in front 4-2.
