As the 2026 WNBA season officially begins for the Indiana Fever today with a "must-see" matchup against the Dallas Wings from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, will their franchise cornerstone point guard, Caitlin Clark, be playing? While Clark was seen earlier this week in practice sporting a left leg sleeve that caused some worry amongst fans, concerned that she may be dealing with some form of ailment, the former Hawkeye laughed off the hyperfixation by saying the practice accessory was simply for compression and comfort . As for the Fever's gameday injury status report, Indiana lists only two names: forward Monique Billings (questionable) and guard/forward Justine Pissott (out; coach's decision).

This means the Iowa women's basketball legend will indeed make her first WNBA regular-season appearance since suffering a season-ending groin injury on July 17, 2025. Status Report for tomorrow's game vs. Dallas: Monique Billings – Questionable (ankle) Justine Pissott – Out (coach’s decision) pic.

twitter. com/VYD2pqL1TY — Indiana Fever (@IndianaFever) May 8, 2026 As for Billings, she injured her ankle in Indiana's preseason finale vs. the Nigerian National Team on May 2 and has since been doing some pregame shooting and participating in warmups for practice reps, but has not partaken in team contact drills.

While head coach Stephanie White left Billings' playing status today up to the team's medical staff, she said the former UCLA Bruin would likely see limited minutes to ease her back into regular use if she is cleared to play in Indiana's season-opener. If Billings can't play, forward Myisha Hines-Allen will likely step into the starting power forward spot. Regarding Pissott, the Fever's 2025 second-rounder out of Vanderbilt has been dealing with a lower leg injury throughout the team's preseason, and White has spoken rather vaguely about her recovery.
