Cards, Hooks duel on Star Wars night

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–A few hours after Missouri State’s game, the Springfield Cardinals took to the diamond at Route 66 Stadium. The Cardinals and Corpus Christi Hooks continuing their Texas League series. Springfield has taken two of the first three games of this series.

It was Star Wars night at the 66. Darth Vadar and the boys. Also the Springfield Cardinals wearing special R2-D2 jerseys.

But the dark side strikes first in the first, Corpus Christi’s Joseph Sullivan takes this deep to right, over the Rick’s sign and gone, it’s 1-0 Hooks. It was 3-0 in the bottom of the first when the force awakens in Springfield, Chase Davis over first base and fair, into right, Jon Jon Gazdar scores it’s 3-1. It’s 3-2 when Zach Levenson gives the Cards a new hope, he loops this into left, Davis ties the game at three.

But the empire strikes back in the third, Trevor Austin takes this deep to left, over the home run deck, it’s 4-3 Hooks. But in the bottom half, Ryan Campos, the force is strong with this one, launches this blaster to a galaxy far, far away in right, his fourth home run of the season. And this game was in a rain delay in the eighth with the Hooks leading 11-8.
