Delgado Community College Coach of the Week: Destrehan’s Chris Mire
DESTREHAN, La. — Chris Mire has helped No. 14 Destrehan orchestrate a special Cinderella run in his 13th season as head coach.
The Wildcats swept No. 3 West Monroe in round two and No. 6 Benton in the Division I non-select quarterfinals.
“The guys love the fact that, you know, we’re the Cinderella team and we are a bunch of nobodies. We’ve kind of had that mantra for a little while now here with this group, because we feel like we don’t get a lot of love. And so they love it.
I mean, to them it’s the next challenge. It’s we’re going places, doing the things that we expect to do. I don’t think anybody that’s in our locker room is surprised,” Mire said.
The Wildcats’ playoff success has put the program back in the semi-final picture for the first time since 2005. It’s also helped coach Mire and company restore Destrehan’s rich tradition on the diamond. “This has been a blast.
