Frost rally to force decisive Game 5 in PWHL semifinals
Minnesota improved to 5-0 in elimination games after storming back from a 1-0 third-period deficit to defeat Montreal 3-1 in Friday’s Game 4 of the PWHL semifinals at Grand Casino Arena to force a decisive Game 5 in Montreal on Monday night. Down a goal after Montreal’s Maureen Murphy scored the first goal of the night at 1:05 of the third period, Sidney Morin turned frowns upside down with back-to-back goals for the Frost at 8:05 and 12:01 of the final frame. Kelly Pannek got her name in the scorebook with a cross-ice goal into an empty net with 75 seconds left to play after Montreal pulled goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens, who made 28 saves on 30 shots faced before getting the hook for an extra attacker.
Minnesota netminder Maddie Rooney wasn’t perfect on the night, but she was close enough with 29 saves on 30 shots faced to ensure at least one more Frost game this season. Rooney even earned an assist on Pannek’s goal, as did Mae Batherson, who also assisted on Morin’s game winner. Britta Curl-Salemme and Samantha Cogan also logged assists.
Next up is a winner-take-all Game 5 to be played in Montreal’s Bell Centre at 6 p. m. Monday.
