ETSU softball squanders a lead to Wofford and falls in the losers bracket of SoCon tournament

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WJHL) — No. 4 seed Wofford overcame an early deficit to defeat No.

6 seed ETSU 5-4 during the 2026 SoCon Softball Championship at Frost Stadium. With the victory, Wofford advances to Saturday’s action, while ETSU concludes its season with a 22-30 record. The Buccaneers took a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning following an RBI single by Whitney Boone, a subsequent error, and an RBI single from Leinani Lutu.

This lead held until the bottom of the fifth, when Wofford ignited a comeback. Kaytlin Greenwood started the scoring for the Terriers with a two-run double, followed by a bases-clearing double from Desirae Devine that surged Wofford ahead 5-3. ETSU attempted a response in the sixth inning when Riley Martens doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Hailey Porter, cutting the lead to one.

In the final frame, Lutu hit a one-out double and reached third base, but Wofford pitcher Abby Greenwood secured a popout to end the game. Greenwood earned the win with her 14th complete game of the season. Addison Lucier led the Terriers with two hits, while Lutu and Martens each recorded two hits for the Bucs.
