Longtime, beloved Knappa baseball coach, Jeff Miller, lauded
On Tuesday, a local sports legend was honored. On Nov. 7, the longtime baseball coach Jeff Miller will also be inducted into the 2026 Oregon High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Knappa High School Athletic Director Jenny Smith sent in an email to The Astorian the recognition speech she made before Tuesday’s game honoring Miller’s achievements. “Today, we take a moment to recognize and honor a truly special figure in Knappa High School baseball. After 24 years as our head coach — and one year prior as an assistant — Coach Jeff Miller has left a legacy that is simply unmatched.
His record of 490 wins to just 121 losses speaks to a standard of excellence that few programs ever reach. “Under his leadership, Knappa baseball became a powerhouse. His teams captured four state championships, made 11 semifinal appearances, and reached the quarterfinals 18 times.
Twice, his teams went undefeated — an incredible achievement at any level. “But beyond the wins, Coach Miller built something even greater. He helped develop 21 collegiate players, coached eight State Players of the Year and 19 Northwest League Players of the Year.
His impact on individual players and their futures is something that will continue for generations. “His excellence did not go unnoticed. Coach Miller was named Northwest League Coach of the Year 16 times, State Coach of the Year five times, and in 2018 was recognized as the MaxPreps National Coach of the Year.
