Former Rockets forward PJ Tucker announces his NBA retirement
Veteran forward PJ Tucker, who quickly became one of the most beloved role players in Rockets history, has announced his retirement from the NBA.
Though he hadn’t played in the NBA since the 2024-25 season, veteran forward PJ Tucker officially announced his retirement in Thursday’s post on Instagram . Tucker played with the Houston Rockets from the 2017-18 season until midway through the 2020-21 campaign, and he quickly became one of the most beloved role players in franchise history. In a caption, Tucker wrote : Twenty years being my job, but 40-plus years of not being able to fathom doing anything other than it.
So, here’s to retiring from the NBA… because I will NEVER stop ballin’. Known for his unique combination of defense, leadership, toughness, and corner 3-point shooting, Tucker was an instrumental part of three James Harden-led Houston teams at the end of the 2010s. That list includes the 2017-18 Rockets, whose 65-17 record remains by far the best in team history.
Tucker has local roots, having played in college at the University of Texas (in Austin), and he still owns a shoe and apparel business in Houston ( The Better Generation ). View this post on Instagram
