ROUNDUP: Engineers survive in HCAC tournament, play Saturday morning
Rose-Hulman survived a Thursday night loss by beating Anderson on Friday in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament baseball action. The third-seeded Engineers fell 11-1 Thursday to second-seeded Transylvania but defeated fifth-seeded Anderson 7-3 early Friday to stay alive. Rose plays fourth-seeded Hanover in an elimination game at 10 a.
m. Saturday at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. T.
J. Pipkins put Rose-Hulman ahead of Anderson with a solo homer in the fourth inning and Jackson Harms added a homer of his own for a 2-0 lead. Anderson came back to seize a 3-2 advantage, but the Engineers scored a tying run in the seventh, three tie-breaking runs in the eighth and another run in the ninth.
Jackson Summers drove in the tying run with a seventh-inning double and added a second RBI in the next inning. Prep baseball ⢠Sullivan 10, Brown County 1 ā At Sullivan, Zane Abbott and Paul Ridgway combined for a two-hit shutout and 14 strikeouts in a Western Indiana Conference win for the host Golden Arrows on Thursday. Sullivan rested some of its regulars and freshman Maddox Grise stepped up with a 3-for-4 performance that included two doubles, a homer, two runs and four RBIs.
Hunter Mason was 3 for 4 with two doubles and three runs; Karsen Norris 2 for 4 with two RBIs; Abbott 2 for 5 with two runs; and Jaxon Zollman 1 for 3 with a double. Sullivan (12-3 overall, 4-0 WIC) was slated to play Friday at Vincennes Lincoln. Brown County (2-12, 0-4) hosts West Vigo on Tuesday.
