Yahoo Sports

Florida State softball will face Virginia Tech in the ACC tournament championship game on Saturday. What to know.

After a rout of Stanford, Florida State softball is on the doorstep of a 20th ACC tournament title to pair with the program's 19 regular-season crowns. The top-seeded Seminoles (48-8) run-ruled the fourth-seeded Stanford, 9-0, in the ACC tournament semifinals behind a gem from freshman pitcher Bella Dimitrijevic, who tossed four scoreless innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts. Pair that with a big day at the plate from Jaysoni Beachum (2 RBI) and Ashtyn Danley (3 hits, 3 RBI), and FSU booked a 28th ACC tournament championship appearance.

So who awaits the Seminoles in the championship game ? FSU will play the slugging third seed, Virginia Tech, for the first time this season. How did Virginia Tech reach the final?

A dominant win over Duke The Hokies beat No. 2 Duke, 5-0, in the semifinal to advance to the championship game. A dominant pitching outing from Bree Carrico helped shut down the Blue Devils.

The All-ACC Freshman of the Year threw 5. 2 scoreless innings, with just three hits allowed and four strikeouts against one of the ACC's best offenses. Carrico exited the game in the sixth inning, however, with what appeared to be a hand injury.
