Heuvelton baseball opens 2-game lead; H-D softball pitchers shine

DEKALB JUNCTION — Heuvelton has recorded a string of dominant wins in the current NAC West baseball season. But they had not opened a two-game lead in the pennant race until the Bulldogs downed Hermon-DeKalb 8-3 Thursday. Thursday’s baseball and softball games produced several well pitched contests where Madrid-Waddington downed Morristown 7-4 and Edwards-Knox trimmed Lisbon 5-1.

In NAC West softball action, Hermon-DeKalb swept Lisbon 12-0 and 24-1 with Lauren Bishop hurling a perfect game in the first game and Maya Green pitching a two-hitter in the second game. Heuvelton 8 - H-D 3: Jude Spooner struck out 10 in 5 1/3 innings and Larry Young closed for the Bulldogs who used 13 stolen bases to enhance the impact of nine hits against the H-D combination of Owen Clifford and Noah MacDonald who combined to strike out 11. Levi Biller doubled twice and Larry Young, Parker Felt Spooner and Larry Young all stroked two singles in the win.

Lyshan Young added a single. Jon teReile singled twice for H-D, MacDonald doubled and Noah Friot and Jacob Whitford singled. M-W 7 - Morristown 4: The Yellow Jackets scored five runs after two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and Logan Kingston struck out 10 in a complete game win.

Kylar Kirby struck out 12 in a no-decision for the Green Rockets. Bear Wilson rapped a single and a triple for M-W, drove in two runs and stole home in the fifth inning. Kingston doubled and singled, Kolby Todd tripled and singled and Ben Weaver singled.

Ethan Simmons singled twice, Craig Simmons singled in a run and Sawyer Belisle and Damian Holister-Young singled. E-K 5 - Lisbon 1: Cole Jamieson pitched a no-hitter for the Cougars and Gabe Smith allowed only one hit on the E-K mound. Greyson Knox singled for the lone E-K hit and Will Pirie scored the lone run for Lisbon.
