Kevin Garnett supports Boston Celtics alum Rajon Rondo for New Orleans Pelicans coaching job

Yahoo Sports

Boston Celtics champion point guard alumnus Rajon Rondo has been in the news of late as a potential finalist for the open New Orleans Pelicans head coaching job. Fellow 2008 Celtics champ Kevin Garnett is evidently a big fan of Rondo getting the gig -- or at least an assistantship should the Pels elect to go elsewhere with the hire. The Big Ticket weighed in on Rondo's coaching candidacy in a recent episode of his "KG Certified" podcast , saying "I think the Pelicans reached out to him, and they're going to interview him for a head coaching position ...

I actually think he'd do well too," said Garnett. "I actually think not only should the Pelicans consider him, I think if they don't make him a head coach, they should consider him for an assistant. " Hinting at the heavy load his prior coaches such as Doc Rivers dealt with in that role, KG suggested "Rondo not only has the intelligence, but the knowledge and he's grown a patience.

" "We've had to have a certain level of patience with Rondo's growth and schooling him and growing him and helping him grow into the player that we all know him to be," continued Garnett. "He went on to win a couple rings and had a dope career" " So I think this is great timing for where the young Pelicans are too -- I think Rondo's young enough to still have some understanding to relate to those young dudes.
