Runners-up four years ago after winning the title in 2018, this generation of French stars hopes to cap off a 12-year run with another trip to the final and lifting the trophy.
For Theo Hernández, his opportunity is now. The left back is hoping to become one of the household names from this tournament despite being one of the best at his position in the world. He hasn’t lifted the World Cup trophy, which makes him hungry for even more success this summer.
Creating Chaos Off the Left Flank Hernández is an attacking left back whose qualities include his speed, dribbling and his ability to be a threat on set pieces. He’s able to provide significant offensive ability on the flank, playing more like a midfielder at times with his ability to go down the field and factor into a scoring chance. He can send pinpoint passes forward and have overlapping runs that can allow him to form dangerous chances.
If a team focuses nullifying offensive options, it’s easy to forget him on the wings where he is most lethal. Despite improving in several areas defensively, he still possesses some limitations. He’s not known for going hard into tackles on the defensive end.
