Walk‑off single sinks Red Wings against Syracuse

The Rochester Red Wings lost to the Syracuse Mets 3-2 on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. A. J.
Ewing’s walk-off single with two outs in the ninth inning secured the win for Syracuse. Rochester led twice and carried a 2-2 tie into the final inning before Syracuse scored the winning run. Early lead for Rochester Red Wings Christian Franklin opened the scoring in the third inning with a solo homer to right-center, his first home run of the season.
Syracuse answered in the fourth when Christian Arroyo doubled and Ji Hwan Bae followed with a sharp RBI double to right to even it at 1. The Red Wings took the lead again in the sixth inning. Dylan Crews singled, moved up on a groundout, stole third and scored on Andrew Pinckney’s sacrifice fly to left for a 2-1 edge.
The Mets tied the game in the bottom half when Nick Morabito singled, stole second and scored on Arroyo’s two-out single to right. In the ninth, Syracuse started its rally after two quick outs. Ben Rortvedt was hit by a pitch, Kevin Villavicencio came on to run and Jackson Cluff walked to push Villavicencio into scoring position.
