Texas A&M softball 's postseason is not starting the way it expected. The Aggies were a sixth seed heading into the SEC softball tournament but were upset by No. 14 Auburn 11-8 Wednesday .
Now, their future in the NCAA Tournament is at the mercy of RPI, the system the NCAA uses to determine its regional hosts. A&M is 16th in the RPI . The top eight teams of an RPI would host the super regionals and the winner of those would go to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
The system for RPI is calculated by using a team's winning percentage, opponent's winning percentage and opponent's opponent's winning percentage Last season A&M softball led the nation in RPI for a majority of the spring and, along with being named co-champions of the SEC tournament , were awarded the first overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, the Aggies became the first top seed bounced in the regional after losing to Liberty .
