Today in Boston Celtics history, former Celtics head coach Jimmy Rodgers was dismissed from his position after an unexpected loss in a first-round matchup against the New York Knicks during the 1990 NBA Playoffs. Rodgers began his tenure with the Celtics as an assistant coach under Hall of Fame coach Bill Fitch in 1979. He continued with the organization after Fitch's departure as head coach in 1983, working under Celtics Hall of Famer legend KC Jones, and later succeeded Jones as head coach following his resignation in 1988.

Dooling would play his college ball with Missouri and have stints with the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) Nets, and Milwaukee Bucks before being dealt by the latter team to Boston in 2011. Dooling played just one season for the Celtics, averaging 4 points, 0. 8 rebounds, and 1.
