Former Germany defender Niklas Süle has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of this season, ending his career when his contract expires on June 30, 2026. The 30-year-old Borussia Dortmund center-back played 49 times for Germany between 2016 and 2023. The announcement came after Süle injured his knee during a match in Hoffenheim earlier this year, leading to him becoming emotional about the possibility of a third cruciate ligament tear.
When he received the good news from an MRI that it wasn't a serious injury, he felt relieved and determined it was over.
