Venice holds Green vs. White football scrimmage, hoping iron sharpens iron

Venice football hosted an intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday, May 7, foregoing a spring game to better equip the team for another title run.

VENICE โ€” As Venice High capped its spring practice session on Thursday night, May 7, at Powell-Davis Stadium, at least one thing became perfectly clear. Rising junior quarterback Noah Patton, a transfer from IMG Academy, and returning rising junior offensive machine Tyree Mannings Jr. are going to give opposing defenses lots of headaches in 2026.

Head coach John Peacock kept the intrasquad scrimmage short and simple. No game officials, no scoreboard, no rosters, and certainly no fireworks or videos on the Venice High Jumbotron. Peacock decided his team would be better served by avoiding the traditional spring exhibition game this time around.

โ€œYou get 19 days in the spring, and you spend five of those getting ready to play a team in a meaningless game,โ€ Peacock said. โ€œWe figured weโ€™d use those five days just trying to get better. โ€œMy thought process was to focus on Venice and not have to worry about playing a spring game.

We just want to focus on Venice getting better. โ€ Mannings led Venice with 84 receptions for 1,429 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore. He also ran the ball 19 times for 193 yards and one score.
