Baylor Vu fired home the game-winning goal for Ponte Vedra, overcoming Winter Park 6-5 in the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A boys lacrosse semifinals on May 7 at Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples. The senior co-captain dodged a pair of Wildcats before launching a rocket shot at the 6:07 mark of the fourth quarter. The Sharks (20-2) advance to the Class 2A final at 2:30 p.
m. Saturday, May 9, against St. Thomas Aquinas.
Aquinas routed Manatee 15-2 with four Nathan Combs goals in the other semifinal. Ponte Vedra's rematch with Winter Park (20-2) proved much more difficult than their Feb. 20 game, which the Sharks had won 13-5.
Will Cavanaugh netted a pair of goals for the Sharks, who had to erase a first-period deficit. Ponte Vedra remains the only Northeast Florida team to win a boys lacrosse state title, which they achieved in 2019.
