Could Yordan Alvarez Become the Astros’ Trade Piece if Things Keep Slipping?
The Houston Astros have had a rough start to the 2026 season. Injuries are piling up, pitching has been inconsistent, and they’ve already dug themselves into a rough spot early on. Through all of it, Yordan Alvarez has still been Yordan Alvarez.
He’s been one of the most reliable bats in the lineup, driving in runs and keeping Houston’s offense from completely falling apart. He is among the league leaders in home runs in the 2026 season and spent much of April at the top of the MLB leaderboard, before finishing the month tied for the major league lead with 12 home runs. Even when the team struggles, he’s usually the guy you can count on to do something at the plate, and most nights he still feels like the one at least keeping the offense from completely disappearing.
That’s exactly why the conversation gets interesting if things don’t turn around. Right now, trading Alvarez isn’t something the Astros are actively trying to do. But if the season continues to go sideways, he would instantly become one of the most valuable players on the trade market.
He’s still in his prime at 28 years old, still producing, and still under control for multiple seasons. If Houston ever got to a point where they considered a reset, teams would line up for him. For now, it’s just a thought experiment.
The Astros still have time to turn things around, and Alvarez is a big reason they can. But in a season where not much has gone smoothly, even the untouchable names start getting brought up in conversation.
