BOYS TENNIS: West Scranton’s D’Augostine joins Abington Heights and Holy Cross duos in D2 semifinals

West Scranton’s Matthew D’Augostine reached the semifinals of the District 2 Class 3A Singles Championships on Thursday. In the Class 3A tournament, top-seeded Prayush Mallaiah and No. 2 seed William Arp continued their undefeated seasons for Abington Heights.

They are each in the semifinals. Mallaiah will face D’Augostine, who is the No. 5 seed, and Arp will play Wyoming Valley West’s Gadgidas Reisinger, the No.

3 seed. The four players who led their teams to the District 2 Class 2A Team Championships final will square off in the semifinals. Top-seeded Billy Hall, of Wyoming Seminary, last season’s runner-up, faces Holy Cross’ Ray Zhang, the No.

4 seed. In the other matchup, Holy Cross’ Alex Harrison, the second seed, will play Wyoming Seminary’s Dhru Sudhakar, the No. 6 seed.

The tournament continues with semifinals on Friday at Kirby Park at 1 p. m. The championship finals follow.
