Barcelona beat Real Madrid to the capture of Spanish youth prodigy FC Barcelona have clinched the signing of Spanish youth prospect Mateo Junza, beating arch-rivals Real Madrid to the move. Junza, an 11-year-old midfielder from Zaragoza-based side CD Oliver, will play at La Masia next season after the Catalan club completed a move for one of the most highly regarded young talents in Aragon. CD Oliver officially confirmed the deal and published a photograph of the youngster alongside a Barcelona shirt.
The club statement read: โFC Barcelona and CD Oliver, thanks to the strong relationship between both clubs, have reached an agreement for the signing of Mateo Junza by the Catalan club. โ View this post on Instagram A post shared by CD OLIVER (@cd_oliver_urrutia) The Blaugrana had been monitoring the young prospect for some time and have moved ahead of Real Madrid, who were also interested in signing him. Apart from Real Madrid, Barcelona have also beaten another La Liga side, Villarreal, to Junzaโs signing.
Villarreal have maintained a collaboration agreement with CD Oliver for several years, with the Zaragoza-based outfit being recognised as one of the regionโs strongest development academies. Currently a part of the Alevin A (U12) side at CD Oliver, Junza has also impressed with the Aragon regional side despite being younger than many of his teammates. Next season onwards, he will continue his development at La Masia , hoping to grow into a future star at Barcelona.
