WC finishes ninth at national women’s tennis tournament
The Weatherford College women’s tennis team finished ninth overall at the NJCAA National Championship in Sumter, South Carolina, where Div. I play concluded Tuesday at the Palmetto Tennis Center. The doubles team of Juliana Jurado and Rosmary Pena captured the Flight 3 consolation title, defeating Sera Karassis and Nobuhle Zungu of Collin College, 8‑6.
In singles play, Maria Camila Ternera advanced to the Flight 1 consolation final, where she dropped a close 8‑6 decision to Mishel Lobotenko of Seward County (Kansas). Valeria Cabrera, Pena, Amanda Skeltina, Sara Tublen and Kshirin Wakalkar also represented WC at the tournament. In head coach Steph Wooten’s second season, the Coyotes posted their second consecutive ninth‑place national finish after placing 15th in 2023 and 12th in 2024.
Weatherford entered the championship ranked No. 10 in the final regular‑season national poll. The Weatherford College men’s tennis team will compete in its national championship May 11–15 at Collin College in Plano.
