A big part of the return for Boston was a first-round pick, which was supposed to be in 2026, but after the Maple Leafs won the draft lottery, it’s likely the pick will now be in 2028. Although Boston might not get the first-round pick for a couple of years, the trade already looks favorable for the Bruins because of Minten's play. At the time of the trade, Minten was expected to be a bottom-six forward who could play a 200-foot game.
However, in his first full NHL season, he exceeded expectations, and Bruins general manager Don Sweeney was thoroughly impressed. “Fraser spent some time, 50 games in, he spent some time up in that (first-line center) spot, which is not an easy spot to play in,” Sweeney said on Wednesday . “You’re seeing a hell of a lot harder matchups, you’re playing with a star player, and you’re trying to navigate a ton – he did a good job.
