Prep Roundup 5/6: Harney’s big hit leads Tipp past Butler in extras
Ethan Harney laced a two-run double with two outs in the ninth inning and Tippecanoe held on for a 5-3 win against Butler in baseball on Wednesday, May 6. Cayden McKinney threw seven solid innings to match Butler starter Koby Dues. Carson Jackson came on to get the win in relief.
The win moved Tipp to 17-5 overall and 13-3 in the Miami Valley League. For Butler it marked two losses in the last three games, dropping the Aviators to 17-3 overall and 12-2 in the MVL. Both squads are hoping for first-place Troy to stumble in the Trojans final two league games as the MVL Miami division race comes down to the wire.
Tippecanoe and Butler are set to run it back on Friday, May 8 at Wright State. Baseball Beavercreek 13, Springfield 0: ‘Creek rebounded from a two-game losing skid with the win, improving to 15-5 overall. Fairmont 8, Miamisburg 2: Owen Wolgemuth struck out eight over five innings of work and Skyler Slifer went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases to pace Fairmont.
Lakota East 4, Colerain 2: Gavin Byrd, Carson Bruce and Carter Egloff each singled in a run in the sixth inning to help Lakota East rally from a 2-1 deficit and record a fourth straight victory. Lakota West 2, Mason 1: Caleb Binder threw a complete game to pick up the win for Lakota West, which halted a three-game losing streak. Hamilton 11, Sycamore 1: The win shuttered a 10-game losing skid for Hamilton.
Lebanon 1, Turpin 0: Caleb Ritter and Tyler Sexton combined on the shutout and Mason Hurst doubled in the lone run to lead Lebanon in the upset win. The Warriors will take on Turpin again next on Friday, May 8 at Day Air Ballpark. Ben Logan 1, Indian Lake 0: Xavier Allen drove in Oliver Morse for the lone run in the fifth inning and Adam Tinsman struck out 10 over seven shutout innings to help Ben Logan secure the CBC Mad River title outright.
