Interim manager Calum McFarlane gave his Chelsea players a short holiday after they beat Leeds in the FA Cup semi final.

It was a good moment to do it, with an 8 day break between matches, and coming after a Wembley win. Of course it did feel a bit strange to be rewarding players who were overseeing such a collapse in the league. The fact that many of them were then photographed chilling on various holidays didn’t do much to help that.

But mentally and physically, it made sense to give them a break. Sadly, it didn’t work. They came back from their time off and lost 3-1 to a Nottingham Forest B team.

McFarlane takes away break as punishment for latest defeat Now, according to Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail , McFarlane has taken the opposite approach. He’s taken away a day off, and had the players back at Cobham on Tuesday training as they get ready to take on Liverpool on Saturday. Another interesting note in there is the claim that players weren’t happy with the lack of days off under Liam Rosenior.
