Johnny Manziel gives boxing a shot, will fight Bob Menery on May 23

(Photo by Marcus Ingram/Getty Images) | Getty Images Former Heisman trophy winner Johnny Manziel will reportedly be making his way into the squared circle as ESPN reports he’s set to take on influencer Bob Menery in a May 23 contest that will be held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, under streamer Adin Ross ’ promotional company. This, needless to say, is the latest event in the recent rise of social media boxing.
Manziel, 33, once starred at Texas A&M as a freshman phenom, but his football career quickly fizzled out at the professional level. He went on try play in the Canadian Football League but also wasn’t for long for that league either, with Manziel eventually being featured in a Netflix documentary on his meteoric rise and fall. I can’t say I’m particularly familiar with Menery, 38, but he appears to be a podcaster who has gotten under the skin of Dana White , who not only once bet that Menery would back out of this fight but has taken such a great interest in seeing it happen that he’s going to host the fight at his venue.
